On 7/7 we celebrated 7 years on Abbot Kinney.
We didn’t really plan anything special for this milestone, but after several people asked me if I was going to design something, I decided to give it some thought.
I’m not sure about you, but I struggle to celebrate things. Maybe it’s because I’m always working on improving and never satisfied with the status quo - or maybe it’s because I have optimism for the future, and very little interest in the past. Either way, I do appreciate the people in my life that love to celebrate, because it forces me to look back and see progress, which, in turn, is usually really encouraging.
I thought I would put a reel together of highlights of our time in Venice, and the sheer amount of videos, amazing moments, and incredible friends, made it a really difficult task. I spent way too much time looking back and trying to pare it down to a short video, but I was left with a couple thoughts that turned into two new concepts:
I don’t use the words “luck” or “ain’t” often, but, ironically, these both felt like they expressed what I wanted to say. Opening the store on 7/7 and hitting the 7 year mark made me think of hitting a jackpot on a slot machine. We did take a lot of risks to do this the way we did and overall we feel like we hit the jackpot.
The other phrase that popped into my head shaped up from conversations with people in the store that are excited that we’re still around. It’s pretty common that people are surprised that we’ve stuck around so long, since Abbot Kinney is a such a transient place. So we’ve heard, in some way or another, “it’s not easy” about a thousand times.
The best things in life are often the hardest too - so I think overcoming obstacles and recognizing the good things is worth celebrating. We did this together, so join in on the celebration!
Also - We actually tried to drop this collection online two times already, but both times we sold out of all the product in-store before we did the drop. These sell fast, so don't miss out!
